Device-Based Licensing
WhatsUpGold Premium Edition
Why settle for this...
With competitors, you pay by the interface or 'monitor'. That means you have to figure out how many interfaces you want to monitor on each device. Often, they'll tell you that 'you only need to monitor a few interface per device'. Our question is 'why compromise'?

...when you can have this?
With WhatsUp Gold's device-based licensing you get maximal network monitoring coverage with less effort. Just decide what devices you want to manage and we make it simple from there. You pay by the number of devices you monitor and can apply as many monitors as you need.

WhatsUp Gold 2019 (latest version) is a Network Monitoring and Performance tool capable of sending alerts and generating reports based on application, host, and network status, and more.
With new and improved features such as Hyper-V & VMware virtual monitoring, Interactive Network Maps, Automated Migration, and more, WhatUp Gold has added some great features to their product.
This article will briefly cover the price, main features, system requirements, and official links of the software.
Pricing
WhatsUp Gold has 4 distinct tiers in their pricing model, and they are as such:
- WhatsUp Gold Basic: This option costs $500. It includes Discovery, Availability Monitoring, Performance Monitoring, Alerting / Reporting, and Inventory features.
- WhatsUp Gold Bronze: This option costs $1800. It includes all of Basic features, and also supports advanced monitoring (WMI, SSH, HTTPS), and wireless monitoring.

Please note that these prices are averages, and you will need to request a quote from IpSwitch in order to purchase. The quote depends on how many servers and devices, applications, virtual servers, and network bandwidth sources you would like to monitor. The quote will also be more if you require management of network and application configurations, and log files.
Features
- Auto Discovery:
WhatsUp Gold is capable of automatically discovering layer 2 and 3 devices via IP Range scans or SNMP scans of a central router’s bridge table. This feature also creates an inventory of found devices with information about them included such as device type, vendor, serial number, and more. - Application Monitoring:
This feature is included in TotalView and TotalView Plus, and is available as an add-on to the other editions. Several applications can be monitored, some of which are Apache web servers, exchange, sharepoint, SQL, DNS, IIS, Active Directory, Hyper-V and VMWare Monitoring, and more. There is also the option to monitor services and processes, allowing for in-house / 3rd party app integration. Thresholds can be set per application that is monitored, allowing for alerts when resource utilization or response time is too high. - Alerting Features:
WhatsUp Gold handles alerts and related actions through Action Policies. Action Policies can contain multiple steps, and are capable of sending alerts via text, email, writing to log files (syslog), restarting applications or services, or running custom Powershell scripts. Local percent variables are available for custom action policies, which means that you can include status metrics in your alert messages. Blackout policies can also be configured, silencing alerts between specified times. - Reporting Features:
WhatsUp Gold’s Application performance monitoring dashboard is capable of showing application health, historical status, chronic problems, and a state change log which monitors application state changes. Several display methods are available, including pie charts, line graphs, lists, and more. They are fully customizable from the “Analyze” tab within the program. There is also an interactive map feature, where you can view all the nodes and monitored devices on the network. From there, you can see an overview of the network, and click on nodes to further configure monitoring of resources, interfaces, applications, view stats, etc. - Virtual Monitoring:
At-a-glance virtual monitoring – Hyper-V and VMWare monitoring now available with the new 2019 version. - Virtual Machine Support:
Like application monitoring, virtualization monitoring is included in WhatsUp Gold TotalView and TotalView Plus, and is available as an add-on to the other editions. It is capable of generating maps displaying VM hosts, machines, relationships between hosts and their child VMs, clusters, and real time status. Polling cycles can be adjusted from the default of 1 minute intervals. Stats on CPU, memory, disk ,and more are available for monitored VMs, and thresholds / alerts can be configured on these as well. - Automatic Configuration Management:
WhatsUp Gold is capable of backing up switch and firewall configurations, and restoring them based on network events. Multiple configurations can be stored per device. There are built in policy audits, trails, and validation steps to ensure that network admins approve configuration changes, and are aware of unapproved changes immediately. - Network Traffic Analysis:
WhatsUp Gold can collect network traffic and bandwidth stats from devices using Netflow, netflow-lite, J-Flow, sFlow, IPFIX, and NSEL protocols. Stats are available for network senders / receivers, domains, apps and protocols, interface traffic, interface utilization, and bandwidth by host or group. Threshold alerts are available for these, and traffic reports are customizable. Several default reports are included.
